Mike: In this episode of the Community Focus Update We’ll be going to NEO College to learn about an expansion to its library, We’ll talk tourism with Oklahoma Lieutenant Governor Matt Pennell, and later we’ll learn the outcome of a discussion between Spartan School Of Aeronautics flight instructor and a girl at a drugstore. All of this and more on the Community Focus Update.

NEO Library Expansion

Mike: On Wednesday October 26th, NEO COllege hosted and open house to its students and the public to celebrate the expansion of their Success Center at the campus library NEO President Kyle Stafford explains

-Bite Lower Third: Dr. Kyle Stafford, President, NEO College Mike: In addition to library improvements, NEO will be expanding early child care services for students with children and student mental health these programs will be fund via grants from various organizations to include the Peoria Tribe of Oklahoma. Currently there are fifteen hundred students enrolled at NEO.

Miami Hi-Noon Business Women's Prayer Breakfast Mike: After cancelling last year's prayer breakfast due to covid-19 concerns, the Miami Hi-Noon Business Womens hosted their annual prayer breakfast at the Miami Regional Chamber of Commerce meeting room. In attendance were many notable men and women from the community. Reverend Susan Rice, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Miami spoke, here’s a sample Lower Third: Rev. Mike: The Miami Hi-Noon Business Women’s goal is to help women who are deciding to return to college with scholarships. Carol Thornton of Miami Hi-Noon Business Women explains how they fund this endeavor.

OK Tourism Summit

Mike: Welcome back everyone. Mike: On Wednesday November 2nd, the Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau hosted a day of tourism at the Coleman Theater and Ballroom. In the morning the Oklahoma Travel Industry Association board met to discuss a wide variety of topics to include the upcoming 2022 tourism season. Later in the afternoon area organizations met for a travel & Tourism summit hosted by Oklahoma Lieutenant Governor Matt Pennell. Keynote speaker Bill Giest (Geest) of DMO Proz (pros) a Wisconsin based Destination Marketing Organization discussed a variety of challenges that the travel industry is facing.

Mike: After Mr. Giest (Geest) presentation, Oklahoma Lieutenant Governor Matt Pennell discussed tourism in Oklahoma and answered questions from the audience.

During the following reception we had an opportunity to speak with the Lieutenant Governor.

Sit Down Interview with the Family of Leon William Schroeder Mike: Welcome back everyone Mike: On Saturday October 23rd the Miami GAR cemetery hosted their annual British Flyers Memorial, a ceremony that reflects on the 13 British Airforce Pilots who died while training at the Spartan School Of Aeronautics during World War 2. Unfortunately this event quickly ended due to a thunderstorm. While talking about what to do next with GAR staff we learned a family from Texas came. Acting quickly we invited them to a sitdown interview to share thoughts on their loved one, Flight Instructor Leon William Schroeder (Schrader) here’s that interview.
